Constructive GeoCrete® stabilization under heavy load characteristic traditional stone cladding after 10 years in perfect condition after applying GeoCrete® for foundation layer and waterprotection

Harbor plateaus are often provided with a covering of asphalt during the dike improvements. For the port of Kats, however, there was the great wish to preserve the characteristic clinker paving.

In 2006, the project bureau Sea defensestested the cladding of the Kats harbor and the surrounding dikes on strength (dike line Leendert Abrahampolder, 2008). This showed that, among other things, the upholstery in the harbor no longer met the requirements. Harbor plateaus are often provided with a covering of asphalt during the dike improvements.

For the port of Kats, however, there was the great wish to preserve the characteristic clinker paving. This was also desirable from a management point of view, because clinkers are less susceptible to rutting than asphalt in the summer.

As a solution, instead of improving the cladding of the port area, the choice was made to make the subsurface so strong that it would meet the safety requirements.

The GeoCrete® wels would then only lie in front of ‘the view’ and, from a hydraulic point of view, have no further function. In consultation with the company TerraStab it was decided to harden the site with GeoCrete®. This material had already been proven at, among other things, container terminals.
