Lower costs, faster and less nuisance by transforming clay on the dike to constructive GeoCrete® Foundation
Transformation of sea clay present by cement-bound GeoCrete® Structural stabilization for the application of a stone construction without feed and drainage materials.
In 2010, GeoCrete® was also used in an ‘acute’ soil improvement in dike section Yerseke. At a number of places, the (sea) clay in the dike body was so poor in bearing capacity / stability that it had to be replaced by foundation material on which the seat stone construction could be placed.
- In order to be able to place the brick, it was provided to dig the low-level soot clay to a depth of 0.8 meter. The excavated sea clay must be first deposited before it can be further processed and discharged (dewatering and sinking). This leads to additional time / drainage and processing costs. Sales of silty clay is an additional problem for the client Rijkswaterstaat and the enormous amount of transport movements resulting from here would be much inconvenience and foreseeable damage in the immediate vicinity of the village and business park Yerseke.
- The alternative, which is to be excavated layer in addition to the clay and drains, was to be with a Geocrete® ground stabilization to upgrade the clay layer in quality, in such a way that this layer of clay in the existing profile could be saved. On the one hand, to provide sufficient stability (read: bearing capacity) for the foundation construction, on the other hand, to ensure sufficient water ON TRANSFER. In the traditional method, a phosphor sludge foundation layer would be chosen which, according to Rijkswaterstaat, fulfills this additional requirement.
